Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Solve For Why Pte. Ltd. (“Knowtepad”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal data when you use knowtepad.com and the community Knowtepads hosted on it (the “Service”). We handle personal data in line with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described here. If you do not agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Who we are
The Service is operated by Solve For Why Pte. Ltd. (UEN 202407358M), a company registered in Singapore, with its registered address at 160 Robinson Road, #14-04, Singapore 068914. For any privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at hello@solveforwhy.org.
2. What we collect
- A Host's email address — only Hosts hold accounts, and sign-in is passwordless (we email a one-time code), so we collect the email a Host signs in with. Members never give us an email address.
- Profile details you choose to add — such as a display name and a general location. These are optional and you control them.
- Content you post — the knowtes you create, including any text and details you include, and the files a Host pins to the shelf.
- A member's name and device — members enter with the Knowtepad's 4-digit code and give a name, which a cookie on their device remembers. We also record the lightweight actions taken on knowtes: seen-it, I'm going, I can help, I'm interested, and claiming a deal — each with the name given. Hosts may also add their community's member list (names, and optionally phone numbers, handles, or emails) so members can pick their own name; identifiers on that list are never shown to other members.
- Technical and usage data — standard server logs kept by our hosting providers, which may include your IP address, browser type, and timestamps, used to operate and secure the Service.
- Essential cookies — we use a session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
3. How we use your data
- To create a Host's account and sign them in, and to remember a member's name on their device.
- To publish knowtes and responses on the Knowtepad.
- To send Hosts occasional transactional notificationsabout their own Knowtepad.
- To send occasional service-related messages about your Knowtepad. You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
- To keep the Knowtepad safe — preventing spam, abuse, and misuse, and acting on flags.
- To meet legal and regulatory obligations.
4. What others can see
Every Knowtepad is members-only: it opens with the community's 4-digit code, so knowtes are visible only to the community (and to us, to operate the Service). Within the community, the board is an open square: knowtes, the names beside them, and the names on lightweight actions (who's going, who can help) are visible to everyone at the board — that visibility is the point of a notice board.
Hosts can additionally see standard details of activity on their own Knowtepad so they can run it — for example, who has seen a must-see announcement, and who on the member list hasn't signed in yet. Please don't put sensitive personal information (such as identification numbers or financial details) into a knowte.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Service, and only as needed:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and storage.
- Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
- Resend — sending notification and service emails.
- Stripe — payment processing, only if you use an optional paid feature (such as highlighting your own knowte). Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and security commitments. We may also disclose data where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights and safety of users.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers store and process data on servers located outside Singapore. Where personal data is transferred abroad, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected to a standard comparable to the PDPA.
7. How long we keep it
Knowtes are time-limited and come down when sorted or when they expire. We keep your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data — see your rights below. We may retain limited information where we are required to by law or for legitimate safety and record-keeping reasons.
8. Your rights under the PDPA
You may, at any time:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Withdraw your consent to our use of your data.
- Request deletion of your account and personal data.
To make a request, email us at hello@solveforwhy.org. We will respond within a reasonable time. Note that withdrawing consent or deleting your account may mean you can no longer use parts of the Service.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes may be communicated to you directly.
